I’m the author of several novels and non-fiction titles, and this is where you can find out about all of the books and follow the ups and downs of a professional writer’s life. Welcome aboard – I look forward to your feedback!

I was born in 1960 in Washington DC, grew up in Surrey and moved to London in 1978. I’ve lived here ever since. After a few years pursuing an academic career, which really wasn’t my cup of tea, I got into journalism where I stayed for over 20 years, writing for a wide variety of dailies, weeklies and monthlies in the UK and elsewhere. It was fun, I met pretty much everyone, and I learned to drink like a man. I still do bits and pieces, but nowadays fiction is my full-time job.

I also write under the name James Lear (erotica) and Rupert James (blockbuster chicklit type stuff).

  2. Crikey – I had no idea you were both Rupert James AND James Lear. Loved Silk, great block buster – the ending reminded me of Valley of the Dolls, loved it! Haven’t read Stepsisters yet but it’s on my list.

Greetings, RS. Devoured “Man’s World” this Memorial Day weekend. Really enjoyed the book. A tight, witty dovetailing of time, peril, love, loss and redemption. I ached considerably at Medway’s plight. But it all worked out in the end. Thanks for an engaging read. Cheerio. -Kyle

  4. We’re reading The Back Passage in the Magnet Book Club (San Francisco) this month. Our local bookstore stocks copies for us. It’s selling well for you, not just to MBC members apparently. Quite the selling cover!
